APPLE VALLEY, San Bernardino County — October 22, 2026. Residents considering a new home, room addition or major systems work should check with the Town of Apple Valley’s official Permit Center before construction begins. The town says the process can involve application forms, plans, code review, fees and inspections.

What projects may need approval?

The town’s Permit Center describes permitting for building a house, adding a room and electrical or plumbing work. Its online portal and downloadable forms also cover mechanical permits and other activities. The permit required depends on the scope of work; this article is not a determination that every small repair needs one.

Documents and review

The town lists site plans, architectural drawings, engineering reports and environmental impact forms among the materials that may be requested, depending on the project. Staff review drawings against applicable codes and may assess zoning and fire-safety issues. An incomplete set of drawings can delay review, so ask for a project-specific checklist before hiring contractors or ordering materials.

Inspections are part of the job

The Permit Center describes inspections for foundations, framing and final completion, plus reinspection requests when necessary. A permit application does not replace an inspection, and a contractor’s assertion that work is finished is not the same as final approval by the town.

Questions to ask before spending money

  1. Is the parcel inside Apple Valley town limits, and is the proposed use allowed by the zoning designation?
  2. Which type of permit and plans are required for the exact project?
  3. What fees and inspections apply, and when must they occur?
  4. What separate approvals could be required for water, wastewater, utilities, grading or access?
  5. Where can the owner confirm the permit status and retain the final inspection record?

Accessibility and how to get help

The town notes that some downloadable forms are not yet fully accessible. It directs residents who need help to its Planning Department at 760-240-7000, extension 7100. The town government portal also provides access to public meetings, code information and records requests.

Bottom line: A land listing, contractor quote or old permit does not prove that your new project has been approved. Check the parcel and project with the actual permitting authority first. The building-permit details and the rules for a specific address can change.
