APPLE VALLEY, San Bernardino County — October 26, 2026. Apple Valley’s $9.9 million federal road-safety award could help reshape travel along three central-town corridors, including routes used by people walking, cycling and driving to schools, parks and services. The award was announced in January 2026; it does not mean construction on all three roads is already underway.
Which roads are included?
According to the Town of Apple Valley’s January 15 announcement, the Complete Streets Implementation Project covers approximately 3.4 miles of Dale Evans Parkway, Thunderbird Road and Otoe Road. The corridors include neighborhoods identified in regional analysis as having serious roadway safety concerns and limited transportation options.
How the financing adds up
The town reported a $9.9 million federal Safe Streets for All (SS4A) award from the U.S. Department of Transportation. It described the overall project budget as approximately $12.4 million, including a $2.5 million local contribution from Measure I transportation funds. These figures represent the funding plan described in the announcement, not a verified final construction cost.
What residents may see
Proposed work includes high-visibility pedestrian crossings, protected walking and bicycle facilities, wheelchair-accessible curb ramps, traffic calming and intersection improvements. The goal is to improve connections to schools, recreation, transit, healthcare and workplaces while reducing the risk of serious crashes.
Apple Valley adopted a Complete Streets Action Plan in June 2025 following local studies and engagement. The federal award represents an implementation step in that longer process.
What remains to be confirmed
The town’s announcement did not specify a construction start or completion date. Before describing a particular intersection as closed, redesigned or finished, residents and businesses should check a current council agenda, construction notice or public works update. Any future design changes also need to be checked against the final approved documents.
